beer

Last night we got to be among the first to taste a couple of the beers from the Fountain Square Brewing Company. Its not fully operational yet, but they were kind enough to invite us over to sample some of their test batches. First of all the people running the show are great and need our support. I guess the Salvation Army across the street isn't too happy with the idea of a brewery opening up. There is a public hearing in May on this. it would be nice to get a crowd over there to show support for the brewery. Its not like there aren't a ton of bars and restaurants serving booze in the neighborhood? As we discussed with one partner last night, the Salvation Army must just think that a brewery is going to attract a bunch of hobos who need their fix of a $5 pint. Anyway, it's silly. A brewery here will be wonderful for the neighborhood just like Sun King and Flat 12 are great for their areas and the city in general. They had their pale ale and porter ready to sample last night. They advised the porter needed a bit of work still, but I found it to be delicious. Being a fan of pale ales and IPAs in general, I was excited to try their pale ale. It was pretty much perfect. Hoppy but not overly so. Strong and bold enough to make things interesting, but not overpowering. I'm looking forward to filling up a growler and chillin' and sippin' on the porch on a warm summer night. We also got to see the plans for the building which is just an old auto shop that's been cleared out. It should turn out to be a cool place with a tasting room and an outside patio type area.

Also tried the Glazed Ham Porter over at Flat 12. Interesting. Tasted like i was drinking Ham beer!
